On the Farm

HARNESSING THE HEALING POWER OF AGRICULTURE

As far back as ancient Greek times, agriculture was said to possess the power to heal warriors. We believe this concept is as true today as it was then, and many studies have described the therapeutic benefits of raising animals and growing plants and flowers.

Working as one with the land and animals helps to “ground” us, providing a welcome escape from the lights, noises and frenetic pace of urban life, which often act as emotional triggers for Veterans. Our agriculture-related programs help Veterans and their families reduce stress, promote healing and enhance physical and spiritual health.

CROPS AND MORE

In keeping with permaculture principles, we believe in working with, rather than against, nature in the crops that we produce. That’s why we focus on growing sustainable, native perennial plants and other crops that don’t require tilling. This minimizes erosion, preserves topsoil and reduces the need for fossil fuels.

And while it may go without saying, we’ll say it anyway: we never use pesticides.
